"He Worked It": Karan On How Ranveer Took Rocky From Paper To Screen

Director Karan Johar, who is at present, basking in the success of his film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, spoke to film critic Anupama Chopra and revealed how Ranveer Singh created the role of Rocky Randhawa for the film. In an extensive chat, the Student Of The Year director noted that Ranveer Singh accompanied him to Delhi for a recce for three weeks. Elaborating on the actor's "process," Karan Johar said, "Ranveer was with me right through those three weeks on a recce in Delhi. He would meet Instagrammers, speak to them, pick up lingos, he would absorb. He would also be driving around Delhi at night and just getting the flavour. I don't know what he was doing but he had a process."

Giving due credit to the Lootera star for bringing to life the character and flamboyance of Rocky Randhawa, Karan continued "He worked it. He created the Rocky Randhawa. You see is a lot on paper but it has a lot to do with him."

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Karan Johar's film in the 25th year of his career as a director, has been receiving unending love and praise by his fans and industry friends alike. Expressing his gratitude for all the love, Karan Johar told Anupama Chopra, "I feel so happy with all the pyaar. I don't know how to react to this love."

''Left For Classes, Never Returned'': 30 Go Missing In 3 Months In Manipur

Kavita, the wife of 47-year-old Atom Samarendra Singh, is fearing the worst. On May 6, in the early days of the massive violence in Manipur, Mr Singh, a journalist, researcher and social worker, went missing. There has been no news of him since.

A friend who was with him -- 48-year-old Yumkhaibam Kirankumar Singh -- has not returned either. The two had driven to the Saheibung area, adjacent to the Manipur Olympic Park, bordering the foothills of Kangpokpi district. Their cellphones are switched off. They are untraceable.

At least 30 people have gone missing since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May. Given the number of missing complaints and the un-numbered First Information Reports filed, the number can grow by leaps and bounds.

Police sources said searches are conducted after a missing complaint is filed, but there has been no success yet. There are over 6,000 Zero FIRs.

Mr Singh wanted his son becomes a scientist. The family was supposed to travel to Shillong in May.

"My father worked very hard and wanted me to join the ISRO's young scientist programme held in Shillong," Mr Singh's son Atom Thoihenba told NDTV. "We wanted our son to study in Delhi. How will I manage that now because he was the only earning member," his mother said.

"The families should at least be given samples for DNA test so we can perform the last rites. But the Manipur government cannot do that and cannot find the missing persons either," said Mr Singh's uncle Atom Meghajit.

Exactly two months after the journalist and his friend went missing, another tragedy unfolded in Imphal on July 6.

Hijam Luwangbi Linthoingambi, 17, had left her home for her NEET coaching classes when the curfew was relaxed in the morning. She was picked up by her boyfriend – 17-year-old Phijam Hemanjit – and the two went for a long ride on his bike, thinking the situation was improving.

They have been missing since. Their parents have filed complaints at two separate police stations.
 
The police say there is CCTV footage confirming they were spotted going towards Nambol area in Imphal valley.

"Cybercrime police reports that her phone was last switched off at Kwakta and the boy's phone got switched off at Lamdan," said Hijam Kullajit, father of the girl. The two places are located in two different districts -- Kwakta in Bishnpur district, Lamdan in Churachandpur – and are 18 km away from each other. The areas at the border of the valley and hills have seen major violence.

"As she didn't return, I called her and she picked up. She seemed frightened and said she was in Nambol. I asked why she was at Nambol and asked her to reveal her location, so her father can come and pick her up. She murmured Khoupum (20 km from Nambol) and her phone got switched off," the girl's mother Jayashree told NDTV.

The families are fearing that their loved ones are being tortured. Hemanjit's cellphone is now being used with a new number, the police have found.

"That area is just 10 km inside from the main road... the Tiddim road, but the police does not dare to go there to search," Phijam Ibungobi, Hemanjit's father told NDTV.

In the hills, the civil society has documented missing cases and also cases where the bodies are yet to be sent back. A mass burial has been planned on August 3.

"There are reports of 44 dead bodies of our people who went missing and are now in the morgues of Imphal hospitals. We have requested the authorities to send those bodies for burial," said Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson, Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF).

"What BJP Couldn't Do In 13 Years...": AAP's Swipe Over Delhi Civic Body

Taking a dig at the BJP, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said all MCD employees received their salaries on the first day of the month as there was "an honest government in the municipal corporation.

In a tweet in Hindi, the AAP chief said, "What the BJP could not do in 13 years, we did it in just five months." The AAP ended the BJP's 15-year tenure in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) after its victory in the civic polls held on December 4.

"After 2010, today for the first time in the municipal corporation, from the commissioner to a peon, from a sweeper to a teacher, from a gardener to a DBC (domestic breeding checkers) worker, everyone is getting salary on the first day of the month," the Delhi Chief Minister said in his tweet.

"And all this happened because now there is an honest AAP government in the corporation as well. Today, I have an appeal to all the employees of the corporation -- on my behalf, do take home sweets for children and parents," he added.

On July 4, Mayor Shelly Oberoi said salaries of MCD's sanitation workers for June were credited on July 1 and claimed that this had never happened during the BJP's 15-year tenure.

The BJP ran the MCD between 2007 and 2022. In 2012, the MCD was trifurcated into North, South and East Delhi municipal corporations that were reunified into a single entity in May 2022.

Later at a press conference, Oberoi said MCD employees of all groups received salaries on the first day of the month.

"Now, there is a local government in MCD which does politics of development, talks of 'vikas' and interests of people of Delhi," she said.

"This is not a government (in MCD) which for the last 15 years did nothing but corruption in the municipal corporation. It is not one which indulges in religion-based politics, caste politics or communal politics," Oberoi alleged, without naming anyone.

Taylor Swift Gifts Rs 82 Lakh To Each Tour Truck Driver As A Thank You

As the US leg of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour officially wrapped up, the 33-year-old singer gave out generous bonuses to the truck drivers who have been transporting her equipment across the country. According to TMZ, the Grammy award-winning singer gifted each trucker working her tour $100,000 and handed out the bonus checks before her Saturday show in Santa Clara, CA.

The singer is believed to have 50 truck drivers on the tour, so in total she shelled out $5 million in bonuses.

A source told TMZ that the money was an "end of the tour" bonus as the Berks County-born pop star comes to the end of the U.S. leg of her tour, before moving on to Mexico.

Not only that, she also gifted a “very generous amount” to band members, dancers, lighting and sound technicians, caterers, and other staff, Metro reported.

Recently, a seismologist revealed that Taylor Swift fans in Seattle, Washington, triggered activity that was on par with a small earthquake.

Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach told CNN that the ‘Swift Quakes' took place on July 22 and 23 and that the dancing at the shows caused seismic activity ‘equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.'

He noted that the activity beats the previous record in Seattle, which was generated by Seattle Seahawks' fans during a game against the New Orleans Saints.

 "The shaking was twice as strong and absolutely doubled it. I grabbed the data from both nights of the concert and quickly noticed they were clearly the same pattern of signals. If I overlay them on top of each other, they're nearly identical,'' he said.
